Those Fuzzy Dice

For a number of years, I have had  a pair of white, fluffy dice hanging from visor in my old pickup truck.   For those same number of years, I have had comments from people “Oh aren’t those cute”, without releasing the thoughts also rumbling around in the back of their minds, “aren’t you dating yourself a bit” or “do you realize that those silly things went out when Elvis came in?”.

“Where in the world did you get them?” I am asked.

“I don’t remember, but it took me a long time to find them” I report.

That normally is enough discussion about the silly dice and unsaid (well I hope you don’t will them to me when you are done with them).

What I usually don’t mention that, unless that is you frequent my office at work,  I am connected somewhat to symbolism.    On the front of my desk is a glass Piggy Bank that I have had since I was a child.  It is now older than dirt too.    It originally came filled with (I believe) Welch’s grape Jelly or similar product.   From a time that nothing was disposable, when emptied, it became a bank.   Being clear glass, the contents are very obvious.  It is filled with marbles, also from my childhood.  When queried about the significance, I merely share:

anything of value to you, keep secure and in plain site

Another conversation piece is a little green frog, a present from a long time friend, under

a concave magnifying lens of a old slide projector.

When asked, ‘some things in life appear larger than they really are’.

Along with the above items is a  little rubber “super ball” painted like the number 8 on a pool ball.  This one?  ‘a maintenance manager is always behind the 8 ball,  but drop it to the floor and see how fast he bounces back’.

Okay Hoback, your usual rambling,  What? you say does this have to do with the fuzzy little dice in your windshield.

nearly everything in life and everywhere you go, is a gamble; but placing your trust with the right keeper, will always leave those choices as a clear “black and white” answer, absent of all gray areas and his safety net will always be present'.

So ends the story of the dice!
